Our Practice

Our ophthalmology practice offers a full range of medical and surgical services for cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disease, cornea disease, pediatric ophthalmology, and strabismus. We offer comprehensive eye care and treatment for nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), presbyopia, astigmatism, double vision (diplopia), amblyopia, other visual disturbances and laser vision correction, LASIK. In addition, we offer an optical and contact lens dispensary, Atlanta Eyewear, for personalized, professional service for the purchase of glasses and contact lens. For our surgical patients we offer a new state of the art ambulatory surgical center on site to provide excellent care in a relaxed environment very different from the hospital setting. In addition to eliminating the hospital environment, the cost associated with the surgical center is much less, than your out-of-pocket cost in a hospital setting. The surgery center is owned and used exclusively by our doctors.

All our doctors are medical doctors who specialize in eye and vision care. They are specially trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to complex and delicate eye surgery.

Our subspecialties in ophthalmology include:

Cornea and External Disease

This subspecialty involves the diagnosis and management of diseases of the cornea, sclera, conjunctiva and eyelids, including corneal dystrophies, microbial infections, conjunctival and corneal tumors, inflammatory processes and anterior ocular manifestations of systemic diseases. Laura A. Bealer, MD specializes in cornea and external disease including corneal transplant surgery.

Glaucoma

This subspecialty includes the treatment of glaucoma and other disorders that may cause optic nerve damage by increasing intraocular pressure. Treatment of glaucoma involves the medical and surgical treatment of both pediatric and adult patients. Paul E. McManus, MD and Shalin S. Shah, MD specialize in the treatment of glaucoma.

Pediatric Ophthalmology

The bulk of pediatric ophthalmic practice involves the medical and surgical management of strabismus, amblyopia, genetic and developmental abnormalities and a wide range of inflammatory, traumatic and neoplastic conditions occurring in the first two decades of life. This subspecialty also deals with the ocular manifestations of certain systemic disorders. Christina L. Weeks, MD, specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.
